INTRODUCTION STEPHEN GILBERT

I am delighted that Darryl and Katherine have kindly combined with Margaret and me to offer you an exceptional experience ‘Down Under’ for ICAPS 2016.
‘Down Under’ is the colloquial term once often used by northern hemisphere people to refer to Australia and New Zealand.
In addition I am very grateful to Darryl for organising the important Scientific Program.  This has had to be dovetailed with the rather mobile Social Program.  Some sections may have to be completed in the next session so we don’t miss deadlines.

INTRODUCTION TO THE SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

It is a great pleasure for me to be the Scientific Committee Chairman for ICAPS Down Under 2016.  Stephen Gilbert has unselfishly been the Scientific Program Director for many years and we thank him for his generous devotion to the task.
In line with similar boutique meetings such as the North American Alpine Workshop, a change in the format this year will give all participants maximum exposure to each others’ talents.  With such a diverse group of international distinguished plastic surgeons from five continents, it is a great opportunity to share as much as possible between ourselves and maximise the benefit of our scientific program in line with the social program we are about to enjoy.
The four categories of short papers delivered by us all will highlight our diversity and also commonality of clinical problems that we face and have faced in our long years of practice as plastic surgeons.  Tips and vignettes that we have shared amongst ourselves stay with us and re-emerge with a wry smile during our clinical work, which we will resume in the next week or two.
I thank you for your participation in the program and look forward to the many presentations that you have prepared.  Thank you for travelling such a long way to participate in ICAPS Down Under 2016.
